Flocus’s technology-processed kapok fibre is used by spinners and nonwoven manufacturers to produce yarns, fabrics,
and nonwoven materials for apparel, home textiles, insulation, and technical applications.

Flocus’s technology-processed kapok fibre can be spun into blended yarns by our customers, combined with fibres such as cotton, organic cotton, lyocell, modal , recycled polyester and others depending on the application. Current developments enable up to approximately 45% kapok content in selected yarn constructions.
Yarn applications include:
Flocus’s technology also enables high-kapok-content nonwoven materials, reaching up to approximately 80% kapok in selected constructions when processed by our customers.
Nonwoven applications include:
Kapok’s hollow fibre structure traps air, giving it naturally low density and useful thermal insulation characteristics. Flocus’s technology enables this property to be used in apparel insulation, bedding insulation, furniture, and lightweight thermal barriers.
Kapok’s hollow structure also gives it potential in acoustic applications, through its ability to dissipate acoustic energy. Applications include acoustic panels, interior acoustic materials, wall coverings, and sound-absorbing nonwovens.
Kapok’s combination of low density, hollow structure, and hydrophobic characteristics has historically made it useful in buoyancy applications, including life jackets and marine flotation materials. The same hydrophobic, oleophilic surface characteristics also make kapok well suited to oil absorption applications, including oil spill remediation and industrial absorbents.
Beyond our established yarn and nonwoven applications, ongoing research continues to explore kapok’s potential in areas such as biocomposites, filtration, and advanced insulation materials. These represent emerging areas of development rather than current commercial product lines.
