For more than a decade, Flocus has developed proprietary, patented technology that transforms kapok from a traditional filling fiber into a spinnable, industrially scalable textile material.
To establish Flocus as a globally recognized, high-performance, and responsible textile fibre company differentiated from all other kapok suppliers by combining pioneering textile technology, industrial-scale processing, certified quality, and social responsibility.
Together with Randu World Hub (RWH), Flocus has built a new model for kapok: proprietary textile technology, fibre expertise, and global commercialization on one side, paired with automated fibre processing, purpose specific quality selection, and social compliance on the other.
Backed by more than a decade of proprietary technology development, Flocus supplies kapok fibre and develops blended yarns, fabrics, nonwovens, insulation and filling solutions, and custom textile developments completed at fibre level by RWH’s automated, independently audited processing facility.
Flocus has specialized in kapok and its textile applications for more than a decade. Kapok has long been valued for its exceptional natural characteristics, but its physical properties made conventional textile processing and spinning particularly difficult.Â
Flocus was founded to solve this problem directly, developing proprietary technology that allows kapok to be processed and blended with other fibers for industrial textile manufacturing — the first step in taking kapok beyond traditional filling use into modern yarns, fabrics, and nonwovens.
Flocus is the sole owner of its proprietary patents covering the preparation of kapok fiber for spinning and nonwoven applications.
Our technology addresses one of kapok’s historical limitations: while the fiber has outstanding natural characteristics, its physical properties have made conventional textile processing and spinning particularly challenging.
Our patent portfolio has been pursued across markets worldwide, covering kapok fiber preparation, kapok spinning, kapok yarn blends, nonwoven applications, and related textile applications derived from the technology.
Flocus’s technology also covers nonwoven applications. In selected constructions, we can currently achieve up to approximately 80% kapok content in nonwoven materials, used in insulation, bedding, home textiles, filling systems, apparel insulation, upholstery, backing materials, and technical textiles. The achievable percentage and construction depend on the performance requirements of the final product.
Flocus’s technology has continued to evolve. Early commercial developments started at approximately 15% kapok content in yarn blends. Today, in selected constructions, Flocus technology can achieve up to approximately 45% kapok in yarn blends, combined with fibers such as cotton, organic cotton, lyocell, modal, recycled polyester, and others depending on the application. The achievable percentage depends on the construction, yarn count, spinning system, companion fiber, and required performance.
Flocus’s work in kapok textile innovation has been recognised by leading industry and fashion organisations, including Performance Days, the Outdoor Industry Awards, ISPO Textrends, the PETA Fashion Awards, and the WWF Australia Decarbonizing Fashion Challenge.
Flocus supplies technology-processed kapok fibre to spinners and nonwoven manufacturers, who use it to produce yarns, fabrics, and nonwoven materials. In addition, Flocus develops blended yarns, fabrics, and nonwoven solutions directly with manufacturing partners, and supplies finished kapok-based textile products developed through these partnerships.
Flocus pioneered OEKO-TEX® certification for textile-grade kapok fiber. Our fiber is certified according to the applicable OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 requirements, confirming it has been tested and found free from harmful substances at the levels defined by the standard.
Flocus works within a broader kapok ecosystem alongside two closely related organizations. Randu World Hub (RWH), owned by Flocus, operates the automated facility in Indonesia that processes and sorts raw kapok fiber into selected grades.
Flocus owns the separate, patented technology used to prepare that fiber for spinning and nonwoven manufacturing, and develops it into finished textile applications for international markets.
KRAF, a non-profit foundation, is supported through donations from Flocus and its clients, working on tree planting, farmer engagement, and safer harvesting practices at the agricultural start of the supply chain.
Flocus technology supports a wide range of applications beyond traditional filling use, including apparel, knitwear, and home textiles through our yarn technology, and thermal insulation, acoustic materials, and technical padding through our nonwoven technology.
Kapok’s natural characteristics including its hollow fiber structure, thermal insulation, and buoyancy continue to open new potential applications, from building insulation to oil-spill remediation.
Flocus has specialized in kapok and its textile applications for more than a decade, developing proprietary technology to overcome kapok's historical spinning and processing limitations.
Yes. Flocus is the sole owner of proprietary patents covering kapok fiber preparation, spinning, yarn blends, and nonwoven applications, pursued across markets worldwide.
Flocus supplies technology-processed kapok fibre and also develops blended yarns, fabrics, and nonwoven products with manufacturing partners. Finished products arising from these partnerships are also supplied by Flocus.
Flocus owns Randu World Hub. RWH processes and sorts raw kapok fiber at its facility in Indonesia, where kapok grows. Flocus owns the separate, patented technology used to prepare kapok for spinning and nonwoven manufacturing.
KRAF is a non-profit foundation supported through donations from Flocus and its clients. It works on tree planting, farmer engagement, and safer harvesting practices.
